It is a moving scene that speaks volumes about the current military conflict. At a time when acts of resistance are multiplying in the two ‘enemy’ areas, two Russian and Ukrainian lyrical artists have have marked their solidarity in the most beautiful way.
This Sunday, February 27, 2022, Liudmyla Monastyrska, Ukrainian soprano and Ekaterina Gubanova, Russian mezzo-soprano, performed at the San Carlo Theater in Naples, Italy, to perform the opera Aida by Giuseppe Verdi. At the end of the performance, the two opera singers made a symbolic gesture of peace and friendship in response to the violent Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
Hand in hand, they walked towards the audience and then hugged for long seconds, without saying a word. The spectators greeted this gesture by loudly applauding and shouting: “Peace, Peace, Peace”†
A scene full of emotion, as evidenced by this video shared by euro news †
A wonderful act of artistic resistance.
