It is a moment of tenderness that almost makes us forget the horror of war. Hiding in a bomb shelter with other refugees, a little Ukrainian girl brought a wave of sweetness to this austere place by singing a mythical and symbolic song.
Since this Thursday, March 3, a week until the day after the start of the Russian military invasion, a moving and hopeful video has been circulating on the internet. We discover Amelia, a young girl who takes refuge in an underground shelter in Kiev – the Ukrainian name of the capital of Ukraine, which differs from the Russian name “Kiev” – as she sings “Free, Delivered”, the tube of Snow Queen† Around her silent women, men and children, tears in their eyes.
This emotional sequence was filmed by Marta Smekhova, a Ukrainian who was present that day to decorate the bunker. On social networks she published the video and these few words: “Everyone put aside what they were doing and listened to this radiant girl’s song. †
For her part, Idina Menzel, who played Elsa in Snow Queen, praised the a cappella performance of the young Amelia. The American actress, singer and songwriter posted on Twitter: ‘We see you, we really see you. †
