VIDEO. Hassan, the young Ukrainian who fled his country alone, found his mother
This young 11-year-old Ukrainian was the only one to leave his country at war to join Slovakia. And after a week of separation, the little boy has finally found his mother. Light up this moving and comforting reunion.
Remember, last week young Hassan, age 11, boarded a train bound for Slovakia, where his siblings who had made the journey for him were waiting for him. His mother, of Ukrainian descent, had stayed in her native country to take care of her own disabled mother. But in the end, the violence of the conflict convinced her to leave the area in the company of the grandmother and the dog.
A journey that brings back painful memories. Indeed, this family fled the war in Syria several years ago. It was in Ukraine that she set down her bags to find some comfort. But fate decreed otherwise. Finally, after again escaping the bombing, the young Hassan’s mother and grandmother arrived in Slovakia earlier this week. Now the whole family is reunited and safe.
“We had to escape so that our family could be reunited. We have to start from scratch. We’ve lost everything we had, but we’re healthy.”
