UK’s oldest brewery has won a national award for its vegan hot dog

To meet the growing demand, more and more restaurants are greening their menus. A trend that has not gone unnoticed by the UK’s oldest brewery, Shepherd Neame. In July 2021, the brand added a vegan hot dog called Diggity Dog to its menu. The article turned out “incredibly popular”, said the brewery, which has just been rewarded for this addition. Indeed, in early March, Shepherd Neame was awarded the best new menu item at the MIDAS (Menu Innovation and Development) awards ceremony.

The award-winning hot dog is made with a vegan alternative to Moving Mounatins brand sausage, made with soy and peas. This is served with crispy onions, sauerkraut, tandoori ketchup, pickled vegetables and mustard, all served in a hot dog bun. This product was introduced after the success of a first vegan option launched by Shepherd Neame in 2019, the Oumph burger!

“The demand for vegan dishes continues to increase, all of our menus now offer vegan options and we have also added more vegetarian, gluten-free and less than 600 calorie options”Shepherd Neame’s head of development, Simon Howlett, said in a statement.
