SNCF aims to produce as much electricity as it consumes by 2030

Solar panels in its stations: this is the project that the SNCF wants to realize. SNCF Gares & Connexions therefore launched a call for expressions of interest on Tuesday 22 February. Objective: to find the first industrial partner that can support it in implementing the initiative that plans to install 1.1 million square meters of solar panels by 2030. The electricity produced must be sold on to the public distribution network.

The SNCF is considering several phases, we can read on the site Sustainable information : firstly, the installation of photovoltaic panels on 156 car parks by 2024, the equivalent of 190,000 m2 of surface, according to a press release.

By 2030, SNCF Gares & Connexions aims to be able to consume as much or even less electricity than it produces and also hopes to halve its greenhouse gas emissions compared to 2019.
