In images, Google shows the alarming effects of global warming on the planet

If you use Google as your search engine, you may have noticed that a new layout has appeared on Friday, April 22, 2022. And rightly so, on Earth Day, the internet giant decided to make internet users aware of an important goal: the climate emergency.

A gif with an ice floe, a coral reef, a mountain, or even a forest appears just above your Google search bar? It is normal, these four striking animations highlight the evolution of these environments in recent years. And the least we can say is that everyone has changed a lot.

In these alarming images from the 1980s to today, we discover that the Greenlandic city of Sermersooq is visibly melting, the Harz forest in Germany suffering from drought, the Great Barrier Reef is the victim of bleaching or even Mount Kilimanjaro is less and less snowy. Realities that are hard to see and that demonstrate the urgency of action to save the planet.

And if Google chose to reveal these images today, it’s because we’re celebrating Earth Day. Born on April 22, 1970, this initiative aims to support people and organizations in reducing their impact on the environment.
