This is the good news of the day. On Fortnite, players have been more than generous in helping the Ukrainian people. The video game publisher has announced that it has already raised an incredible amount in less than 24 hours for associations such as UNICEF and the Refugee Agency with 36 million dollars (about 33 million euros).
Solidarity is not dead on social networks or on video game platforms. Epic Games has revealed the $36 million amount raised for Ukraine in just 24 hours. The publisher of the Fortnite video game had announced that it would donate all amounts collected on the platform to humanitarian organizations that help the Ukrainian people. An operation that only takes two weeks. It has been in effect since March 20 and ends on April 3. This amount, which is already significant, can only increase.
Launched with the new season of the game called “Resistance”, this solidarity initiative immediately mobilized online players. These amounts will be donated to four associations: UNICEF, Direct Relief, the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the World Food Program (WFP).
Epic Games had even assured that the donations would be made as soon as possible, without even waiting to receive the money directly: “As soon as possible. We do not wait for the actual money from our platform and our payment partners, which may take some time depending on how the transaction was processed. When transactions are reported, we record them and send the money within a few days to aid organizations”the video game publisher said on its blog.
Microsoft will also donate net profits from purchases made in the Microsoft Store, Epic Games said.
Other initiatives have also raised money to help the Ukrainian people since the Russian invasion. By early March, $25 million worth of cryptocurrencies had been raised.
