Birds, bees, hedgehogs: the animals in our gardens are thirsty. The LPO invites us to help them.

As you probably know, the weather in the month of May is abnormally dry. And if this weather is not without risk to the future of our crops, it is already a real problem for nature, especially for the birds that live in our gardens. Hence the warning message launched on Thursday 12 May by the League for the Protection of Birds (LPO).

In a post posted to Facebook around 9:00 a.m., the LPO formally:

“Small wildlife is suffering from the lack of water and the current drought.”

Fortunately, anyone can take action. For that, it is enough to offer a little of its water to our friends the birds. To do this, the LPO proposes to provide them with a shallow tank (3-4 cm). You can place it almost anywhere (in your garden, on your patio or on your balcony), as long as it’s shaded and away from danger.

“Make sure it’s placed in an open area where birds can see potential predators coming.”

And, good news, what helps birds also benefits other animals. Such a device, the LPO specifies, “so that birds as well as hedgehogs, squirrels and bees can drink safely.”

Another important detail: you should change this water regularly. Objective: that it stays fresh, that it is not attacked by mosquitoes and that it does not transmit diseases.

Damaged by human activities and the resulting climate change, biodiversity needs our help and sometimes small gestures are enough. Are the birds thirsty? Let’s follow the advice of the LPO, offer them water.
