Overview

The Call of Duty World Championship is a yearly tournament containing all of the best pro and top amateur teams in the world. The 2019 World Championship had a 2 million dollar prize pool with $800,000 awarded to the winning team. The event took place in Pauley Pavillion in Los Angeles, California.

Rules

Each team of the 32 teams that qualified would first be sorted into groups of 4 and would play all 3 other teams in the group. Once finished, the top 2 teams would advance to the winners bracket, the 3rd place team advance to the losers bracket, and the last place team would be eliminated.

Qualified Teams

The 16 teams which qualified for 2019 CWL Pro League were the first teams to qualify for the 2018 Call of Duty Championship. They were joined by the top 16 amateur teams from the CWL Finals Open Bracket.

Bracket Play

Tournament favorites and winners of the previous Call of Duty eUnited faced off against Team War in the first round of the winners bracket. Team War, a team composed of players strictly from the United Kingdom and one of only four amateur teams to make it to the winners bracket put up a valiant effort and stole one map from eUnited.

2017: OpTic Gaming

The Optic Gaming roster finally got over the hump to win Champs, cementing themselves as the second dynasty in Call of Duty history. After experiencing disappointment with this roster for the last two years at Champs, the team finally figured everything out and dominated during Infinite Warfare.

2018: Evil Geniuses

Evil Genuises were not one of the best teams during the regular season of Call of Duty WW2 but managed to put everything together during Champs to go on the most improbable run in Call of Duty history.

2019: eUnited

The eUnited roster was one of the top three teams in the entire league throughout the 2018-19 season but struggled to get over the hump throughout the year. They consistently played second fiddle to Optic Gaming and 100 Thieves during the early part of the season.

Production

Clash of Champions is a recurring pay-per-view (PPV) and WWE Network event first produced by WWE in 2016. Similar to its predecessor, Night of Champions, the theme of the event is that every active championship available to each brand division featured at the event is defended.

Event

Two matches were contested on the Clash of Champions Kickoff pre-show. In the first match, Drew Gulak defended the Cruiserweight Championship against Humberto Carrillo and Lince Dorado in a triple threat match.

Aftermath

Prior to Clash of Champions, it was rumored that Bray Wyatt would challenge for the Universal Championship at Hell in a Cell. On the Raw following Clash of Champions, due to The Fiend's attack, Universal Champion Seth Rollins announced that he would be defending the title against Wyatt's Fiend persona at the event in a Hell in a Cell match.
