Sustainable fashion: Adidas launches a hoodie made of wood fibers

Adidas continues its commitment to sustainability with a first-ever hoodie made from wood fibers. This model, intended for hiking enthusiasts, in harmony with nature, is the result of a long-term collaboration with the Finnish start-up Spinnova. It will be available in a limited edition this summer.

After launching the first low-carbon performance shoe with the Allbirds brand, adidas is committed to reducing plastic waste in its collections over time. Eight months after announcing its partnership with Spinnova, an ecological fabric manufacturer that won the prestigious ANDAM award for innovation, the equipment manufacturer presents its first marketable product. This is a hoodie of which part of the fabric is made of wood fibres.

In more detail, this new type of sweatshirt is made of fibers derived from wood, up to 25%, and organic cotton. Called “Terrex HS1”, it is a multi-purpose piece intended for walkers and walkers. The sweatshirt can also be rolled up into the hood to optimize storage, or transformed into a pillow for nights out in the great outdoors.

This one hoodie is the first of a long list of products resulting from this longstanding partnership between adidas and Spinnova. The three-stripe brand aims to offer at least nine out of ten articles with a more sustainable technology, material or production process by 2025.

Until this deadline, the wood fiber hoodie will be offered in limited numbers from July 2022.
