Sleep: is CBD really effective for a good night’s sleep?

When specialists disagree about the benefits of CBD, the uses are increasingly documented. Known to be effective against anxiety, boosting libido or aiding athletes in recovery, cannabidiol is increasingly being adopted by the French to limit sleep disturbances.

Does CBD Promote Sleep? According to a study by the CBD brand Yogah*, taking cannabidiol helps you sleep better. In total, “8 out of 10 CBD consumers see a significant improvement in their sleep”says the study.

To conduct their research, the specialists interviewed a panel of 500 adult CBD consumers in February.

86% of respondents suffer from sleep disorders, according to the survey that the CBD brand Yogah has conducted among its users. Insomnia, somnambulism or even sleep apnea disrupt their rest. Poor sleep can affect the quality of daily life. “95% of respondents say these conditions spoil their daily lives”finds the study.

“Lack of sleep disrupts the physical, psychological and cognitive balance and generates unwanted and harmful side effects on quality of life and health”, the study presents. After a shortened rest, the “little sleepers” may notice mental fatigue, characterized by: “decreased concentration, decreased alertness, lack of energy”† There may also be mood disturbances and fatigue. Health effects can also be felt. Poor sleep leads to “weakening of the immune system” what would cause? “various infections”, the study says. Finally, it can disrupt metabolism, leading to “obesity, stroke, diabetes, high blood pressure…”

Effective CBD or placebo effect?

In terms of use, consumers prefer to take it in the form of oil (for 83% of respondents). For optimal use, the Toulouse brand recommends placing a few drops of the oil under the tongue for a minute, about an hour before bedtime.

For now, science has not yet made a decision. “The universe of the molecule remains particularly driven by user testimonials”, explains medicinal cannabis specialist and patient expert Pascal Douek in Madame Figaro’s columns. But the research is starting to multiply. According to a US study published in January 2022 and conducted on 2,704 people aged 21 or older, CBD is said to reduce anxiety, sleep better and improve well-being.
