A few tips for the best Giant Cookie!
Because we’re working with very small ingredients, it’s super important to measure everything EXTREMELY carefully. Make sure you’re lightly spooning flour into measuring cups and leveling with a knife.
Use Our Template
Here is a great template you can use to get the perfect sized cookie. It has 3 circles on it, and all our giant cookie recipes include a recommended baking size. To use this template, place it directly on your baking sheet and then cover it with parchment paper (do not bake directly on the template!).
After Baking, Reshape your Cookie
This is one of my favorite pro-tips (I actually do this with regular sized cookies, too!). In order to get a perfectly round shape, as soon as your cookie comes out of the oven (you only have a short window of time to do this) use a large spatula to gently press the edges in to shape your cookie into a perfect circle.
Let it cool completely!
Before you frost, make sure it cools on a baking rack completely. Our favorite tool to have on hand for moving around giant cookies is a giant spatula, like this one.
Tips for Packaging
One of our favorite ways to package a giant cookie is in a blank pizza box . You can find them on Amazon or often at restaurant supply stores. I’ve found 9″ is usually the perfect size, but if you want a little more wiggle room, 10″ is a good option as well.
Giant Sugar Cookie
Our sugar cookie recipe is legendary and we hope you love this giant version as much as we do!
What kind of chocolate should I use in a chocolate sugar cookie?
I used bittersweet chocolate chips when developing this recipe. I was going for chocolate flavor, without the extra added sweetness of semi-sweet or milk chocolate.
How to make a giant heart shaped cookie without a cookie cutter
If you’d like to make a heart shaped cookie Like I did, I have a trick for you! I’ve made a heart-shaped template in just the right size. Just print it out and lay it underneath a piece of parchment. Use your hands to gently shape the dough, making sure to keep the dough in a nice even layer.
How to tell when a chocolate cookie is done baking
Baking chocolate cookies is always a challenge because it’s hard to use color as a doneness indicator. One thing I always look for are these little cracks around the outside edge of the cookie. Not all over, but around the outer edge. In my oven, this cookie takes about exactly 14 minutes, but all ovens cook a bit differently.
Giant Chocolate Sugar Cookie
This is a soft buttery sugar cookie made with melted chocolate both in the cookie and the silky smooth icing. Oh, and it’s the size of your head.
Step 1: Crust some Red Hot Candies
This cookie gets a little burst of cinnamon flavor from crushed up red hot candies. I use a heavy mallet and place my red hots in a plastic bag to crush them.
Giant Cookie Tip 1
Use our template! When you are ready to bake, this printable template slips under a piece of parchment paper and gives you a size and shape guide.
Frost Your Cookie
I use a fluffy buttercream icing on this cookie. If you love cinnamon, I recommend a few drops of cinnamon extract (or cinnamon flavoring oil) to boost that flavor in the overall cookie. Without a little extract the cinnamon is quite mild.
Package Your Cookie
If you are giving this cookie as a gift, consider putting it in a blank pizza box. I recommend lining your box with parchment paper. Cookies have a lot of butter, which will leave grease spots on the plain box, or tissue paper.
Can you Freeze Giant Cookies?
To frost baked, unfrosted cookies: To do this, I place them in the fridge for 20-30 minutes until frozen on the outside and then stack multiple cookies between sheets of parchment paper, wrapped well in freezer. I wouldn’t freeze them for more than 6-8 weeks.
How do I make multiple Giant Sugar Cookies?
Warning: This involves math 🙂 I would print out the recipe and calculate however many cookies you would like to make. A food scale will be your best tool so you can easily multiply the flour and sugar. Make all the dough in a stand mixer together and then weight the finished dough, dividing by how many cookies you are making.
Do you have other Giant Cookie Recipes?
Yep, tons! From classic Chocolate Chip and Ultra soft Peanut Butter, to fun seasonal favorites like this Cadbury Mini Egg Cookie or our Peppermint Candy Cane. Find them all, here!
