i use dawn dishsoap and hot water to strip the wax and oils from the surface. then i follow with acetone. it's true that you can tell if you've removed the oils and wax by running water over the surface. if the water "sheets" off, you removed everything. if there is any beading, you need to redo everything.

I just remembered anothered reason I use 70% alcohol instead of higher percentage (90 or 100%), to clean parts prior to painting. The higher the percentage, the faster it evaporates, and with greater than 70% it evaporates from your cloth or towel too quickly. So you endup using a lot more and takes longer to clean an area properly.

I wouldnt take the chance, just use some good wax and grease remover. if you don't get all the alcohol off , you will be pissed. alcohol wipes are the worst , I know this first hand. I tried them ONCE and it came through the paint
