Re: Where to start with rewiring from Knob and Tube to Romex

I agree removing K&T is a big job when done right. In most cases those homes have lath and plaster and completely removing it is a pain.

Re: Where to start with rewiring from Knob and Tube to Romex

I was going to mention "plaster and lath" but I didn't want to be too dramatic! lol I will never deal with plaster and lath demo again. Tearing out drywall is a vacation in the Bahamas compared to busting up plaster and lath. I will never deal with it again. Modern houses for me from here on out.

Re: Where to start with rewiring from Knob and Tube to Romex

You are right they are a real pain. I am to old to wanna deal with that anymore. Lol

Re: Where to start with rewiring from Knob and Tube to Romex

If you enjoy sore backs, longer arms and working in blinding gagging dust that's a job you want.

Re: Where to start with rewiring from Knob and Tube to Romex

Yeah I won't cover it with drywall either, with one exception. The lath ceiling in the front hall was sagging and I just didn't want to tear it down. I used quarter-inch thin drywall on top of that.
