What to add to ground turkey to make it less dry?

Mushrooms! Ground mushrooms to be exact. Trust me, with this juicy recipe, you will fall head over heels in love with ground turkey. Mushrooms add moisture, mouthfeel, and umami (beefy) flavor to the otherwise dry ground turkey.

What keeps ground turkey moist?

I opt for 1/4 cup of mayonnaise per 1-1/4 pounds of ground meat, but you can use plain yogurt, ricotta cheese or spreadable herbed cheese such as Aloutte, as well. Just keep the moisture-giving ingredient to the same proportions as this recipe or the burger will be so wet, they'll fall apart.

Is ground turkey healthier than ground beef?

Ounce for ounce, ground turkey has slightly more calories, fat, cholesterol, and sodium compared to ground beef. However, ground beef has more protein, iron, zinc, and B vitamins. Saturated fat is where they differ (though not by a ton), and that's usually why turkey generally gets more “healthy” points than beef.

Is ground turkey good for weight loss?

Yes, ground turkey is great for weight loss! Lean ground turkey is high in protein and low in fat/calories which makes it an ideal food for weight loss. You can have 4 oz of turkey for under 150 calories and 20-30g of protein!

Do you season ground turkey before cooking?

Before you start cooking, be sure to season the ground turkey well with salt and pepper. Also consider including dried herbs and spices for additional flavor. If you're cooking meatballs or meatloaf, pinch off some of the seasoned mixture and cook it in a skillet to taste. Adjust seasoning accordingly.

What are the white strings in ground turkey?

This scum is made from proteins. Meat contains muscle fibers (the proteins actin and myosin) as well as some loose proteins swimming in the fluids within the meat (the cell plasma). When you cook meat, the protein-rich fluids are expelled (that's why overcooking makes meat dry).

Should I add baking soda to ground turkey?

Briefly soaking meat in a solution of baking soda and water raises the pH on the meat's surface, making it more difficult for the proteins to bond excessively, which keeps the meat tender and moist when it's cooked.

Does ground turkey need oil?

There are different ways to cook ground turkey, but whichever method you choose, adding a bit of oil, such as olive oil, will help the turkey stay moist during cooking.

How do you make turkey taste like beef?

Mix the ground turkey with Worcestershire sauce and blend well with your hands. This sauce is the one extra ingredient that can make all the difference with flavor, and it also helps keep the turkey moist. Add other spices according to your own taste. A little salt and pepper is a must.

How do you make ground turkey stick together?

Just like in a traditional meatloaf, you need something to hold the meat together. Try adding some dry breadcrumbs to the turkey mixture before you shape the patties. The crumbs will absorb the moisture and, together with the egg, will act like glue and help your burgers maintain their shape on the grill.

After the veggies have sautéed and the meat is mostly cooked, we add in this quick sauce — just whisk everything together in a bowl and pour it right into the skillet.

Sriracha-Mayo Topping

This Sriracha-Mayo sauce is completely optional, but it adds a nice hit of spice, broadens the dimension of flavor, and delicious creaminess to these Asian Ground Turkey bowls. And it’s only four ingredients — the zest and juice of two limes, Sriracha® sauce, mayonnaise, and a tiny bit of sugar to balance it all out.
