How to tell if a Model 1100 410 is a 3 inch receiver?

I had always thougth that Remington 1100 410s were all the same BUT I found one that is labeled SKEET on the barrel and when a barrel with a 3 inch chamber is put on it, the round fires fine but the empty hull will NOT clear the port to eject.

Re: How to tell if a Model 1100 410 is a 3 inch receiver?

I am not positive, but I do not think there is any difference between a Skeet 1100 410 receiver and a field model. I know the 12s and 20s, whether 2-3/4" or 3", are identical except for the rollmarking. In fact, I do not see a "magnum" action bar assembly or action bar sleeve for the 410.

Re: How to tell if a Model 1100 410 is a 3 inch receiver?

Re: How to tell if a Model 1100 410 is a 3 inch receiver?

I know why Remington did it on the 870s, so you would have to buy a 3" Magnum 870 to shoot 3", although I have seen several rather early 870s that had the ejector in the rear location and would and did handle 3" shells just fine with only a barrel change.

Why is the recoil of a Remington 1100 lower?

Although the Remington is far from heavy feeling, it’s still heavier than a standard Mossberg 500. Because of that, the felt recoil is far less on the Remington. Also, the gun itself feels extremely solid and nice when compared to my clackity Mossberg. It’s just a joy to handle and shoot.

What is the softest trap gun?

One of the softest trap guns ever is an 1100 Magnum with a trap barrel. Why Remington just did not make all 1100 12ga receivers magnums I don't know. It would have prevented a lot of confusion. What Bob says about the special 3" steel shot barrel being used on a 2-3/4" action is correct.

How many gas holes are in a 3" barrel?

Your 3" has one gas hole and a solid action sleeve. Your 2 3/4" barrel has two gas holes and will most of the time cycle light loads. To make sure it will you should replace the action sleeve with a regular one. These have some of the steel around the outside removed to make them lighter.

This isn’t a fair comparison to new Remingtons, but I have 2 1100’s: a 63-68 2 3/4″ (not sure, as their lettering code wasn’t in practice during that time period), and a 3″ Magnum from 1974. Both of these shotguns have been hunted very hard, and lost most of their finish wherever parts moved or metal was handled frequently. The s…

Hunting

  • Hunting with an 1100 is extremely natural, at least for me. The stock is . . .perfect and will come up naturally for anyone used to hunting with 870’s. I don’t know if that’s because the stock is a great design, or if I’ve just spent so many hours hunting with similar stocks that I’ve got used to it, but it feels as comfortable as a favorite old t-shirt. The crossbolt safety clicks, which might scar…

Remington 1100 For 3-Gun Competition

  • Semi-automatic, tube-fed shotguns can be pretty pricey but used 1100’s are again a very reasonably priced option. With an easy loader and shotshell carrier, it’s not bad for the price. After that, you may want to consider: 1. Larger bolt handle 2. Magazine Tube extension (more for American readers, as we’re limited to 5 rounds for semi-auto centerfire rifles in Canada) 3. Overs…

Overall

  • Even though the design on this shotgun is ancient, it is no slouch in use and you’re not giving up much to the newer shotguns. If you have a load that works for your 1100 and don’t need the versatility of modern shotgun designs, you’re not missing out on much for newer tech. Keep a few #21 o-rings handy and you’re good to go!
