will 41 chain fit 420 sprocket

by Derrick Mayer I Published 4 years ago Updated 3 years ago

The pitch will be the same but a 420 motorcycle chain is narrower than an ANSI 40 or 41 chain, so no it won't fit. A 425 or 428 chain, however, would fit just fine. Given the width I'd say it will fit a sprocket designed for #41 chain but not 40, also.... have you held up a piece of 428 chain next to a piece of 420???

40, 41, and 420 chains all have the same pitch (1/2″) and use the same sprocket, even though the roller width is not identical. The difference is minute and won't cause any failure.

Is 41 chain the same as 420 chain?

#420 will have more strength than the #41 chain because the side plates will be taller. #40 will be the beefiest chain in this class. This will help with thicker sprockets since there is more room between the side plates. #41 will look just like the #420 chain, but will stand shorter.
