why is chex mix so good

by Mrs. Kyra Cormier Published 3 years ago Updated 2 years ago

Chex Mix is such a perfect food because it is balanced. Each individual piece retains its own individual texture, shape and flavor, yet together the pieces compliment one another and are coated in the same spice blend. Not all pieces absorb the flavor in the same way — some, like the pretzels, are merely coated in it.Jun 7, 2017

With a total fat amount of just 15% of the daily limit and only 2.8 grams of sugar, Chex Mix is perhaps one of the healthiest snacks (other than fruits and veggies) that you can have. We recommend simply limiting your amount to one or two ounces because of the fairly high sodium content.

Circle PretzelCircle Pretzel After a heated discussion about hard pretzel architecture, I have come to understand that the circle pretzel is irrefutably the worst component of Chex Mix. Grade

More beneficial to your health than not. However, harmful qualities are most likely associated and shouldn't be overlooked.

History of Chex Party Mix

Wheat Chex cereal was introduced in 1937 and Rice Chex in 1950 by Ralston Purina.

Commercial contents and varieties

All commercial Chex Mixes contain some form of Chex cereal. Other ingredients generally include rye chips, bagel chips, breadsticks, pretzels, nuts, and crackers. In total, General Mills produces 13 varieties of Chex Mixes, not including limited editions.

20. Ghost Pepper

If you're craving a spicy version of Chex Mix, there are numerous options to pick from. However, the one flavor you should stay far away from is Ghost Pepper. This stuff is so spicy that there's nothing enjoyable about it at all, even if you already go wild for the hottest of hot sauces.

19. Max'd Buffalo Ranch

Max'd Buffalo Ranch is a Chex Mix flavor that sounds like it has a ton of potential. On the bag, you will see a Buffalo wing being dipped in a creamy bowl of ranch dressing. It's a sight that might be enough to make your mouth begin to water.

18. Sour Cream & Onion

When you see the Sour Cream & Onion flavor of Chex Mix, you may be lulled into a false sense of security. Don't let that happen to you. Sure, sour cream and onion chips are adored by many and scrumptious varieties are sold by a number of brands. In fact, this chip flavor is the Mashed readers' favorite.

17. Cookies & Cream Muddy Buddies

If you've never tried Chex Mix Muddy Buddies before, you're in for a surprise. These things are a unique snack and unlike anything else you've eaten before. They basically take the corn Chex pieces from standard Chex Mix and then lovingly bless each piece with a thick, voluptuous coating of scrumptiousness.

16. Cheddar

The Cheddar flavor of Chex Mix is another flavor that will give you high hopes but will ultimately let you down. While this stuff is certainly edible, it's ultimately just not worth the aggravation of trying. Instead of going with this version of Chex Mix, save yourself some frustration and just pick another flavor that sits higher in this ranking.

15. Jalapeño Cheddar

The Jalapeño Cheddar version of Chex Mix is better than the previously mentioned Cheddar flavor — but not by a whole lot. It's actually quite similar, which is part of the problem and why it doesn't deserve a full-hearted recommendation.

14. Honey Nut

When you see a bag of Honey Nut Chex Mix, you'll likely be reminded of Honey Nut Cheerios. Chex Mix that tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios, a cereal that has been tantalizing taste buds since 1976, would be a dream come true for snackers from coast to coast. Regrettably, that's not the case here.

1. Skimping on the butter

I’ve tried those recipes that call for a few tablespoons of butter for cups and cups of cereal and crackers, and I’m here to tell you that butter is the glue that makes the seasoning stick to all the other bits and pieces. And no, butter won’t make the snack mix soggy! In fact, it actually crisps up the whole mix.

2. Crowding your snack mix

Snack mix needs a good deal of surface area to cook and dry out properly or it will get soggy — and nobody wants soggy snack mix.

3. Using too much liquid

Don’t go over the recipe’s suggested liquid amounts; that is a sure way to get soggy mix (which, again, nobody wants).

4. Overcooking your snack mix

Most snack mixes are cooked with relatively low heat, making it seemingly impossible to overcook. In fact, the fragile flavorings will burn before the cereal will ever appear overcooked, making for a less-than-delicious-tasting finished mix.

5. Adding fragile ingredients too early

Cheese puffs, popcorn, chocolate bits — these mix-ins are arguably some of the best ingredients! And you might think that the low oven won’t hurt these tender bits, but overmixing or overcooking can destroy them.
