I have an old woodburning fireplace that has no flue and is not lined, so I was advised by the chimneysweep to put in the gas logs. I recently installed Peterson vent-free logs. After burning off the smell of the new logs, I still have some odd odor in the room. I think that is because I haven't sealed up the chimney yet.

I'm not sure I am understanding this. Are you saying you are burning ceramic logs in a gas fireplace without an opened damper? OR are you saying it is wide open all the way up? What do you mean seal up the chimney?
