How many gallons per minute does a Jandy valve take?
The Jandy valve shown at the right has one port half way closed, or halfway open – depending how you look at it ~ If 100 gallons per minute were flowing through both incoming ports, closing one halfway would give 75 gpm flowing through the open port, and 25 gpm flowing through the halfway closed port.
What should I do if my Jandy valve is leaking?
Jandy Valve Maintenance: Not much needed, but here’s a few Jandy valve care and repair tips. 1. If leaking air or water around the stem, replace item #6, o-rings, and lubricate. 2. If the valve body or diverter is cracked, replace the entire valve, save extra parts.
How do you tell if a valve is open or closed?

Should the pool drain be open or closed?
For proper water circulation, it is best to position the flap so that it is about 2/3 closed. This will allow for more flow through the main drain than through the skimmer, which will promote a "bottom-to-top" circulation throughout the pool.

Leave it there until you work is done than put toggle back in original position so valve will return to normal running position.Jul 1, 2020
Can you manually turn a Jandy valve actuator?
There are two (2) methods of manually rotating the JVA; one with power on (system operational) and one with power off (no power to the control system). 1. Move the toggle switch located on the bottom of the actuator to the opposite position (ON 1 switch to ON 2 or vice versa).
Which pool valves should be open?
A normal pool valve setting would have the skimmer valve(s) fully open, main drain half-open and spa drain fully closed. To operate a suction pool cleaner or manually vacuum the pool, you can close other skimmers, or close the main drain, to obtain more suction through the skimmer you are using.
What is the waste position on pool pump?
The WASTE Position: Waste diverts the water pumped in from your pool from the filter and sends it directly out of the backwash hose, without even entering the filter tank. It's one of two 'Bypass' settings on a multiport valve.Mar 24, 2017

How do Jandy valves work?
Jandy Valves, and other 3 way valves are very simple to make adustments to your water flow. For instance many pool owners keep the main drain line 1/2 closed, and the skimmer wide open. If you have two or more skimmers, you can throttle back the skimmers closer to the pump, to allow more suction to the further away skimmer (s).

Can I open a manual 3-way Jandy valve without harming it?
I think I have debris in my drain or the pipes that flow to the pump filter. How can I get a hose down to the drain? I was thinking about taking the top off of the Jandy valve and running the hose down that way. But before I open up the valve and risk ruining a seal, I wanted to know if this was even a possibility (or check with the more experienced folks here to see if there's a different way.) Due to my schedule, I won't be able to drain the pool and work on it from the drain side until March.
Re: Can I open a manual 3-way Jandy valve without harming it?
There's an o-ring that seals the top of the valve, don't pinch it when you put the top back on! Also, make sure to note the orientation of the valve, so that you put it back on the same way (or take this opportunity to realign the stops).
How to tell if a gate valve is open?
How to Know if Gate Valves are Open. Gate valves are a type of isolation (or shut off) valve that are found on pipes that require the complete turn off or on of flow. Gate valves have a knob on top that when turned raises and lowers the gate inside, hence the name.
How to tell if a butterfly valve is open or closed?
If you have a butterfly or ball valve, the direction of the handle indicates whether the valve is open or closed. If you have a stop or gate valve, it is harder to tell if your valve is open or closed because there are very little to no visual cues, meaning you have to rely on the amount of resistance to determine if your valve is truly closed.
How does a butterfly valve work?
Butterfly valves can regulate flow by having the disc partway open. Butterfly valves have a lever handle on the top that is similar to the ball valve. This handle both indicates if the flow is on or off, and can be used to turn the valve partway on by locking the disc in place.
What happens if a ball valve is perpendicular to the top?
Likewise, if the handle is perpendicular to the top, the valve is closed. Common places you might find a ball valve are in irrigation and in sites where you need to control water supply from one area to another.
What is a ball valve?
Because of this design, ball valves are a type of shut-off valve, meaning they can only be used to stop and start flow; not regulate the flow. Ball valves are perhaps the easiest valve to see if they are open or closed. If the handle on top is parallel to the valve, it's open.
Why are ball valves called ball valves?
Ball valves are adeptly named because of the ball that sits inside the housing unit. The ball has a hole through the center. This hole faces the flow of water when the valve is open. When the valve is closed, the solid side of the ball faces the flow, effectively blocking further forward movement of the liquid.
