Why does my CPU fan spin in the opposite direction?
This could mean that the cpu fan spins the opposite direction of the case fan, pulling air through the sink and effectivly negating the effect of exhausting the warm air out of the case. Either that or it spins the same direction and pushes air through the sink and effectivly routes the air towards the exhaust fan and dumps it out the back.
How do I know which direction my CPU fan is blowing?
Some fans have a small arrow on the casing that indicate the direction of airflow. Whichever way the arrow points, that’s the side that air will blow from. (Yep, it’s that easy.) Not all fans have an arrow—or perhaps you’re trying to evaluate a fan that’s installed in a case or on a CPU cooler and you don’t want to unmount it to look for an arrow.
How do I determine the airflow direction of my case fans?
How to determine the airflow direction of your case fans? When looking at our fans, the Front or Intake side of the fan will always be the side that has the Cooler Master Logo in the center of the blades. The Rear or Exhaust side (the side that the air comes out of) of our fans will always be the side that houses the fan motor.
Which side of the fan is the motor side?
When looking at our fans, the Front or Intake side of the fan will always be the side that has the Cooler Master Logo in the center of the blades. The Rear or Exhaust side (the side that the air comes out of) of our fans will always be the side that houses the fan motor.

Which way do PC fans flow?
Look for the arrow Some case fans (but not all) have an arrow showing the direction of airflow. Some fans have a small arrow on the casing that indicate the direction of airflow. Whichever way the arrow points, that's the side that air will blow from.
Do all PC fans spin same direction?
No, not all fans turn the same direction. Some fans pull air into the case and some push air out of the case.
Are CPU fans intake or exhaust?
CPU fans are designed for exhaust, as they blow the hot air away from the CPU, but some dual fan CPUs have two fans, one as intake and one as exhaust.
Do GPU fans use intake or exhaust?
GPU fans act as an intake which is pulling air in and blowing out of the rear ventilation holes. If you have fans mounted at bottom or in front then they generally should be acting as intake to bring cool air into the case.
Are PC fans reversible?
Yes you can. Look at it this way: Take the side panel off your case. Hold the fan in the proper orientation at the front of the case.
Why do all fans move counterclockwise?
Most ceiling fans are designed to cool the area underneath them by spinning in a counter clockwise direction. Because of the angle and pitch of its blades, a ceiling fan circulates air and creates a cool breeze. So in Summer, most ceiling fans should rotate in a counter clockwise direction.
Is my computer fan backwards?
There should be an arrow on at least one out side edge of your fan indicating airflow... should be at least. Find this arrow if you can because fans still blow some air the opposite direction near the edges sometimes though most air goes the other direction in my experience.
How to tell which way a fan is going?
Well look at the fins, fans spin clockwise so air will travel where it's being captured and pushed through, you can easily tell which way the air will go by just spinning them clockwise with your hand and feeling which direction of the air. If you're looking at the logo then its exhausting the air. for intake the logo should be facing forward so you see the back of the fan and for exhaust you can see the logo. Air usually flows away from the logo, in pretty much every fan anyway.
What does the air flow away from on a fan?
The Air flows away from the logos on the fan.
Where is the fan spinning on my computer?
It’s probably the fan in the back of your computer case .
How to tell if a fan is in the right direction?
Look on the side of the fan case. There may be a small arrow. If present, this arrow indicates the direction of airflow through the fan.
How many fans does a computer case have?
Many computer cases contain only these two fans and rely on cool air naturally entering through a side vent as the intake. You can improve airflow by adding an intake fan to either this side vent or to the front of the case, provided there is a fan mount point there.
What should the fan mount point on a case be for?
Finally, if your case has a fan mount point on the top, this should be for exhaust, since warm air rises.
What does RPM mean in fan?
RPM: This stands for revolutions per minute , and is a measure of how many times per minute the fan blade makes one complete rotation. Obviously, the higher the RPM spec a fan has, the faster it can spin.
How to keep your computer in good condition?
Keep your computer in an open, well-ventilated area.
Does every computer case have a fan?
Just about every computer case has a fan in the back panel; this should be an exhaust fan.
Choose the right size fan
While 120mm and 140mm are the two most common sizes, fans can range from as small as 40mm to a chonky 200mm. You’ll need to check compatibility with your PC case and CPU cooler before purchasing one.
Speed vs noise
You might be faced with the choice between a silent system or an effective one when selecting your PC fans. Faster fans push more air, helping you cool your rig better, but this sometimes makes them more audible as fans rotate faster and the electric motors work harder.
PWM fans and fan controllers
Unlike your regular three-pin fans that are stuck at a fixed RPM – unless you’re fortunate enough to have a motherboard that supports voltage-based regulation – PWM fans come with an extra fourth pin that sends and receives signals to control the speed of rotation.
Arrange your fans
There are two ways you can position your fans: as an intake to pull air into the case, or as an exhaust to push air out. Since air travels one way through a fan, it’s important to mount them correctly in order to direct airflow seamlessly.
Positive, neutral, and negative airflow
Airflow can be split up into three types that depend on the CFM of your intake fans compared to your exhaust fans:
Airflow vs static pressure
Surprisingly, the fans that sit on your AIO cooler’s radiator aren’t actually the same as the ones designed to attach to your case. These are known as high static pressure fans but go by many different names out in the wild, such as be quiet! high-speed fans.
RGB LED lighting
Most fans are bog standard black, brown, or grey squares that aim to sit inconspicuously in your system, but occasionally you’ll find some designed to draw attention with light-up LEDs.
