The thermostat takes the temperature override as a need to reach the new temperature setting right away. It will run the backup heat only as long as necessary to reach new temperature setting.

It depends, if the thermostat is powered with a 24 Vac common it can be set to have continuous backlight. If the thermostat is battery powered, it cannot be set for continuous backlight.
