Also when on the interstate and you go to accelerate quickly, it is going to take more pedal movement and more time to get the car moving with a non lockup because the impeller acts like a buffer.. you have to wind up the rpms before the car will "take off" like you are used to.

With a good auxiallary cooler, you can pretty much avoid the heat buildup. The aod does lock up in 3rd even at full throttle. Ran mine at the track for a year or more like that and it absolutely drops the rpms way down. The lockup can live at the track especially with the better stall.
