Methods
We studied the performance of APL valves integrated into the GE Aisys CS 2 and Draeger Fabius (Drägerwerk AG & Co.KGaA, Lübeck, Germany) anaesthesia machines, using an ASL-5000 test lung monitor (Active Servo Lung; IngMar Medical, Pittsburgh, PA, USA).
Results
A total of 4800 single assessments were performed in the two anaesthesia machines (GE Aisys CS 2 2880 assessments, Draeger Fabius 1920 assessments).
Discussion
Our investigation is the first to report on the performance of APL valves in anaesthesia respirator breathing circuits, other than isolated reports about the failure of APL valves or suggestions about their location within breathing circuits 6 - 12.
