Do you fill potting mix with water?
Some people believe they fill with water and then release that water back into the potting mix as it dries down and thereby extends the amount of time before another watering is necessary. In my own case I haven't found this to be true (I have allowed mixes to get bone dry and the blobs are still filled with water).
