What is Al and Cu?
High-quality Al/Cu compression cable lugs are perfect for coupling aluminium conductors with copper elements. A compound in the aluminium connecting material improves the contact properties. Aluminium-copper connectors are necessary for the skilled connection of aluminium and copper conductors.
What does Al-Cu mean on a breaker?
copper-aluminumIn the late 1960s, a device specification known as CU/AL (meaning copper-aluminum) was created that specified standards for devices intended for use with aluminum wire.
What is Al-Cu wire?
The Twister® Al/Cu Wire Connector is specifically designed to provide a secure connection while preventing aluminum corrosion. Pre-filled antioxidant compound prevents oxidation of aluminum conductors. Swept wings and hexagonal head for easy installation by hand or with standard nut driver.
What is Al-Cu alloy?
An Aluminium alloy (or aluminum alloy; see spelling differences) is an alloy in which aluminium (Al) is the predominant metal. The typical alloying elements are copper, magnesium, manganese, silicon, tin and zinc.
What color is the CU wire?

Can I install GFCI with aluminum wire?
Aluminum wires are better in electrical distribution and transmission. However, typical household wiring devices (GFCI, receptacle outlets, light switches, etc.) are not rated for aluminum wire.
Can I use aluminum wire instead of copper?
Aluminum Wire Pros and Cons Aluminum wire is generally easier to use than copper because it's lighter and more malleable, making it an ideal wiring material to use over long distances.Jul 29, 2016
What wire is used in houses?
Wire Gauge The most common sizes you'll find in residential work are 14-gauge and 12-gauge. Larger appliances such as electric stoves, electric water heaters, electric dryers and central air units will often use 10-, 8- or even 6-gauge wire.Feb 4, 2021
Is it OK to buy a house with aluminum wiring?
Aluminum wiring is not illegal, but it is no longer up to code and new homes are now built with copper wiring. If you are thinking about buying or selling a home with aluminum wiring, you will be ok as long as you follow the instructions on how to deal with it.
Why is copper added to aluminium?
The copper provides substantial increases in strength and facilitates precipitation hardening. The introduction of copper to aluminum can also reduce ductility and corrosion resistance.
How strong is cast aluminium?

What is the best grade of aluminum?
Alloy 5052: This is the highest strength alloy of the more non heat-treatable grades. Its fatigue strength is higher than most other aluminum grades. Alloy 5052 has a good resistance to marine atmosphere and salt water corrosion, and excellent workability. It can be easily drawn or formed into intricate shapes.Jul 20, 2015
When did UL allow AL-CU?
This was allowed (by UL) until about 1972. Most of the devices marked this way are identical to those (of the same model # "family" from the same manufacturer) that are not marked AL-CU or CU-AL. The AL-CU or CU-AL marking was a manufacturer's option.
When did the UL test for aluminum wire?
Electrical devices marked COALR or CO/ALR. In about 1972 , UL and the wiring device manufacturers agreed on a test standard for receptacles for use with Aluminum Wire. The devices that passed the standard were marked CO/ALR.
Is COALR the same as AL-CU?
Since devices marked COALR or CO/ALR conform to the UL standard for compatibility with aluminum wire, the devices with CO/ALR markings must be considered differently - they are not the same as the AL-CU or CU-AL devices.
Is a COALR marked device the same as an AL-CU?
However COALR or CO/ALR - marked devices are not and should not be treated identically with electrical devices marked CU-AL or AL-CU. Also, devices marked CU-only are intended for use only with copper wire.
Can you use CO/ALR with copper wire?
These devices are intended for direct connection to aluminum wire, although they can be used with copper or copper-clad wire. CO/ALR devices perform better with aluminum wire than non-CO/ALR devices when installed carefully and according to best electrical practices.
About Aluminum Copper Alloy
Aluminum Copper is one of numerous metal alloys sold by American Elements under the trade name AE Alloys™. Generally immediately available in most volumes, AE Alloys™ are available as bar, ingot, ribbon, wire, shot, sheet, and foil.
Packaging Specifications
Typical bulk packaging includes palletized plastic 5 gallon/25 kg. pails, fiber and steel drums to 1 ton super sacks in full container (FCL) or truck load (T/L) quantities. Research and sample quantities and hygroscopic, oxidizing or other air sensitive materials may be packaged under argon or vacuum.
