IF YOU DROP or Withdraw from Classes AFTER YOUR Bright Futures IS DISBURSED. Your Bright Futures will be billed for the classes dropped or withdrawn after the initial drop/add period. The amount owed is based off the number of credits dropped for the term. Classes dropped through the Academic Regulations Committee (ARC) Petition process do not exempt a student from repayment of Bright Futures.

Can students see when funds were mailed from Bright Futures?
Students can see when funds were mailed from our office by reviewing the enrollment history section of their Bright Futures account. Payment date is the date funds were mailed, not that they have been received or posted by the school.
Can I keep Bright Futures if I fail a class?
You must earn credit for all hours paid by your Bright Futures scholarship. Hours paid must equal hours earned. Funds for hours not earned because they are dropped, withdrawn, failed, retaken or for any other reason should be repaid immediately if you calculate that your GPA will meet requirements.
Can you lose Bright Futures?

What is a good reason to drop a class?
For example, if you are going to fail or get a “D,” it's probably better to unenroll. Additionally, if the class is causing you physical or emotional stress and health-related issues like anxiety, it's not worth sacrificing your wellbeing.
Is it OK to drop a class?
As mentioned above, in most cases it's OK to drop a class, especially if you haven't dropped a class before. Colleges understand that sometimes circumstances change, and having one dropped class on your transcript won't hurt your college applications. However, there are still some considerations to keep in mind.

How long do I have to be on probation for Bright Futures?
A: Bright Futures follows Federal Financial Aid guidelines meaning you will receive grant funds for one semester after you have dropped below the required GPA. You will be on academic probation for that semester. If at the end of the probationary semester you have brought your cumulative GPA back up to the 2.0 or higher, you will come off probation and continue to receive your grant as long as you have met all other program requirements. If you have not brought your GPA up to the required level by the end of that first probationary semester, you will be placed on academic suspension and will no longer be eligible for Bright Futures funds.
Why can't I receive my college funds?
Students can be eligible but not receive funds for a variety of reasons. Reasons include missing program requirements or not completing information in ‘My Colleges’. Do not ignore any red warning messages on your account. Contact our office immediately if you do not understand why you are seeing the message.
When is the deadline for post secondary school?
A: The deadline for the entire school year is May 15th prior to the start of classes in the fall. If you do not intend to start post-secondary classes until spring, you will still need to complete the program requirements by the May 15th deadline.
When do you start applying for high school?
A: Students can start the application process in mid-October of their senior year of high school. Counselors will let students know when the application process has opened. This date will vary by school.
Can Bright Futures be used for tuition?
A: No. Bright Futures funds can only be applied to tuition and mandatory fees. As a last dollar in program, our funds will only be applied if there is a balance that includes these expenses
