What happens if live and neutral are reversed? If the switch is put in the neutral line (like in your house) the switch and fuse comes in neutral line. In the switch OFF position the entire appliance will have 220V, touching any part will give you deadly shock. As per the rules, if live and neutral are reversed, Electricity board will not give power to your house.
What happens if live and neutral wire is reversed?

What does it mean when a switch goes live on neutral?
The vast majority of items or appliances it is of no consequence, but it usually means that any single pole switch will be in the neutral line so there will be a live or 'hot' that will go 'unswitched'. Max. Since you know the problem exists, you should go ahead and correct it.
What happens if you reverse the l-n switch?
The reversed L-N can be fatal, it's one of those no if's and buts situations. The reason why is because when you switch off the appliance at the switch it will remain live even though the circuit will of corse not be completed.
What happens if you reverse a live and neutral?
What happens if you put a switch in neutral?
What happens if reverse polarity is reverse biased?
What happens if live and neutral are reversed in a plug?
If your outlet's polarity is reversed, it means that the neutral wire is connected to where the hot wire is supposed to be. This may not sound like a terrible thing, but it is. There is always electricity flowing out of an outlet with reversed polarity, even if an appliance is supposed to be off. Why is it dangerous?Sep 1, 2016
What happens if you wire live and neutral wrong?
There would be a shock hazard, and some devices might not work correctly. Depending on where exactly the wires are flipped, ground fault detecting circuit breakers may become ineffective. All around, this is a bad idea.Aug 29, 2016
What happens if hot and neutral wires are reversed?
One common issue with electrical outlets is reverse polarity, also known as "hot-neutral reversed." In this condition, the outlet has been wired incorrectly, altering the flow of electricity. While the outlet will still be able to provide power to your electrical items, it is also present a greater shock hazard.Apr 12, 2017

The answer is fairly clear. Yes it matters, because it reduces the possibility of an appliance/device becoming a shock hazard.Apr 27, 2015
What happens if you mix up the white and black wires?
What happens if black and white wires touch? First of all, nothing will happen, if the two wires aren't connected to any power source. Therefore, you won't have much to worry about. Even if you just let the bare wires touch each other, you'll encounter a short circuit.Apr 11, 2021
Will reverse polarity damage appliances?
Reversed polarity can damage or short-circuit your appliances. This wiring mistake within outlets can cause household appliances to overheat or damage the internal circuitry and wiring.Apr 6, 2022
What happens if you get live and neutral the wrong way round on light fitting?
Reversed polarity between a single switched live and neutral in the fitting is technically wrong but it would still work. A permanent live on to the switched live side of the fitting would by-pass the switch rendering the switch useless.Aug 19, 2018
What happens if live and Earth wires are swapped?
If the Live wire and Earth wire connections are swapped, what happens? Is that correct? If you swap them in the plug for a metal electric kettle, the kettle won't work, but if you touch it you'll get a shock since the case would be live.
What happens if you hook up a light switch backwards?
When an outlet is wired in reverse, the hot wire is now on the supposed neutral side. So, if you were to plug in the same lamp as noted above, the lamp socket would have power even if the switch was off since the switch is only on the hot side.Dec 8, 2020
Live and neutral reversible on light fitting? | DIYnot Forums
My wife bought a chrome ceiling rose and pendant to replace the standard white plastic one (to match a new chrome light cover) The flex it came with is very long and I need to shorten it before wiring it up. But it is not usual white flex with a brown and blue core. It's made of transparent...
What does Live Neutral Reverse mean in power socket tester tool
This would be true only if the OP has a TN-C-S supply, similar to that used in North America. (It would not be true if the Supply System was NN-S, TT or (perhaps) TN-C From previous posts I believe that the OP (ojolol) has said that he is somewhere in Asia - and it would be of assistance if he (and everyone else) could update his profile to indicate his location.)

And fancy asking the same question in two different forums (fora)!! Shame on you!

Awesome. And those simple little plug-in testers (cost about £15) would have informed the clown that connected it up that there was something wrong.

Wouldn't most appliances with any kind of PCB just go bang as they are designed to take the power in one direction ie live - neutral. I hate asking these kind of questions for fear of poo-pooing replies. ??

At the risk of sounding like an MP in the house of commons, I stuck a reply in the other place, as that's where I wrote it.

I would have thought that fact that a toaster is plugged into the socket is irrelevant. The point is that the socket could have been used for virtually anything. Double insulated = probably not a problem; Metalclad appliance = potentially lethal.
