Warnings

Naproxen may also cause stomach or intestinal bleeding, which can be fatal. These conditions can occur without warning while you are using Vimovo, especially in older adults.

The FDA approved Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories LTD to manufacture a generic version of Vimovo ®. Generic products may be available in July of 2020, but keep in mind that generic drug release dates are subject to change based on litigation, patent expirations, and drug exclusivities.

Indications and Usage for Vimovo

Vimovo, a combination of naproxen and esomeprazole magnesium, is indicated in adult and adolescent patients 12 years of age and older weighing at least 38 kg, requiring naproxen for symptomatic relief of arthritis and esomeprazole magnesium to decrease the risk for developing naproxen-associated gastric ulcers.

Vimovo Dosage and Administration

Use the lowest naproxen dose for the shortest duration consistent with individual patient treatment goals [see Warnings and Precautions (5.1)].

Clinical trials of several COX-2 selective and nonselective NSAIDs of up to three years duration have shown an increased risk of serious cardiovascular (CV) thrombotic events, including myocardial infarction (MI), and stroke, which can be fatal. Based on available data, it is unclear that the risk for CV thrombotic events is similar for all NSAIDS.

USE IN SPECIFIC POPULATIONS

Use of NSAIDs, including Vimovo, during the third trimester of pregnancy increases the risk of premature closure of the fetal ductus arteriosus. Avoid use of NSAIDs, including Vimovo, in pregnant women starting at 30 weeks of gestation (third trimester). There are no adequate and well-controlled studies of Vimovo in pregnant women.
