What is the UniProt KnowledgeBase?
The UniProt knowledgebase is a large resource of protein sequences and associated detailed annotation. The database contains over 60 million sequences, of which over half a million sequences have been curated by experts who critically review experimental and predicted data for each protein.
How do I download data from UniProt?
UniProt is updated every eight weeks (see FAQ on how to be notified automatically of updates ). You can download small data sets and subsets directly from this website by following the download link on any search result page. For downloading complete data sets we recommend using ftp.uniprot.org.
Why can't I see all the UniProt proteins in my browser?
You are using a version of browser that may not display all the features of this website. Please consider upgrading your browser. When browsing through different UniProt proteins, you can use the 'basket' to save them, so that you can back to find or analyse them later.
What is UniProtKB/SWISS-PROT?
Database UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot is the expertly curated component of UniProtKB (produced by the UniProt consortium). It contains hundreds of thousands of protein descriptions, including function, domain structure, subcellular location, post-translational modifications and functionally characterized variants.
What is the UPID in proteome?
The proteome identifier (UPID) is the unique identifier assigned to the set of proteins that constitute the proteome. It consists of the characters 'UP' followed by 9 digits, is stable across releases and can therefore be used to cite a UniProt proteome.
What is the lineage of Homo sapiens?
The exact lineage of Homo species ie: H. habilis/H. ergaster to H. erectus to H. rhodesiensis/H.heidelbergensis to H. sapiens is still hotly disputed. However, continuing evolution and in particular larger brain size and complexity culminates in Homo sapiens. The first anatomically modern humans appear in the fossil record around 200,000 years ago.
