Nicodemo intentaba saber quién era Jesús. Fue a buscarlo por la noche, probablemente porque, siendo un fariseo, tenía miedo de que lo vieran. Sin embargo, Jesús le dio la bienvenida y lo tomó muy en serio.

El cauteloso Nicodemo está, tanto espiritualmente como físicamente, en la obscuridad. Las palabras de Cristo encienden una mecha de quema lenta que resplandecerá como luz, en el momento más inesperado. Después de la Crucifixión, cuando todo parecía terminado, Nicodemo se fortalece a sí mismo, yendo al jardín de la tumba portando mirra y aloes.

Nicodemo era un hombre lógico y razonable; él estaba preparado para darse tiempo para considerar lo que Jesús decía. Sin embargo sus hábitos lógicos y razonables le jugaban en contra; la idea de volver a nacer lo confundía y no lograba ver como el podría lograr lo que Jesús sugería.

El Espíritu de Dios está en todas partes: ¡dejémonos sorprender por Él! Es el regalo de Dios y dondequiera que descubramos alegría, paz, justicia, y cualquier clase de vida, allí lo encontraremos. La oración es nuestra apertura a este Espíritu, durante y después de orar.

La noche puede ser un buen tiempo para orar. El mundo tan ocupado está más quieto entonces y tengo menos posibilidades de ser molestado/a. La noche también acarrea su rico misterio, que me ayuda a compenetrarme con el misterio de Dios. Los monjes oran en las noches toda su vida: ¿puedo hacerlo por al menos unos pocos minutos antes de retirarme?
