Felipe le dice: "Señor, muéstranos al Padre y eso nos basta." Jesús le replica: "Hace tanto que estoy con vosotros, y no me conoces, Felipe? Quien me ha visto a mí ha visto al Padre. ¿Cómo dices tú: "Muéstranos al Padre"? ¿No crees que yo estoy en el Padre, y el Padre en mí"?

Hoy es la fiesta de dos apóstoles, Felipe y Santiago, (y por eso el evangelio adecuado para la fiesta es el mismo que el del sábado anterior). Agradezco a Dios por esos dos hombres y por sus compañeros, porque es gracias a ellos que he recibido la fe en Jesús.

El haber reconocido a Jesús en alguien, es haber llegado a entender quién es Dios. Cuándo Pablo cayó en su camino a Damasco la voz le dijo:” Soy Jesús, a quién tú persigues” (Hechos 9:5) y la luz del Señor lo tocó profundamente en ese momento.

Las personas de otras religiones podrían sentirse ofendidas por la aparente exclusividad de las palabras de Jesús: “Yo soy el Camino, la Verdad y la Vida; nadie va al Padre sino por mí.” Podríamos leer sus palabras así: “La forma en que vivo mi vida, es el Camino, la Verdad y la Vida, y es el camino indispensable para llegar al Padre.”

Felipe es uno de los apóstoles menos conocido. Lento en comprender, genera un gentil, aunque ligeramente exasperado reclamo de Jesús, en la Última Cena: “Felipe, he estado contigo tanto tiempo, ¿y aún no me conoces?" Felipe estaba desde el principio, era el cuarto apóstol según Juan.

Es consolador pensar que, incluso los mejores amigos de Jesús, no lo consiguen comprender. Él es infinitamente paciente. Explica una y otra vez, hasta que logramos entender. Él está siempre presente para hablarnos en nuestras oraciones.
