How good is the contrast on the au8000?

The AU8000 is carrying some contrast issues that I’ll break down further in the review, but it’s worth calling out the TV’s ability to get dark when it matters. I measured black levels in the 0.05 to 0.08 range, with the higher end of that range happening while the TV was at its brightest in HDR.

If the Samsung insignia is a must-have, consider the Samsung Q60A. There’s a bigger price gap between the AU8000 and the Q60A when compared to the 5-Series, but you’re getting a terrific picture thanks to quantum dots and local dimming-two display features not found on the AU8000.

The Samsung AU8000 is decent for HDR gaming. It has low input lag for gaming, but it has a slow response time and no VRR support. Sadly, HDR content doesn't look very good because it can't display a wide color gamut and has low peak brightness, so highlights don't stand out how they should.

Because the AU8000 is limited to a refresh rate of 60Hz, the absence of HDMI 2.1 ports isn't quite as disappointing as it would be on a panel capable of delivering 4K resolution at 120Hz. However, it does mean that Dynamic HDR is off the menu, as is Variable Refresh Rate (VRR).

Is the A8000 a good TV?

The AU8000 is a decent entry-level TV. Its picture quality is commendable with most types of content with the exception of HDR images where it falls short due to a lack of peak brightness output. On the other hand, 4K and 1080p high-def images are satisfying and deliver respectable picture quality that will please most people looking for an affordable entry-level TV with good smart TV features. I recommend the AU8000 for anyone who isn’t overly concerned about having the best in picture quality but just wants a picture image that looks good at an affordable price.

Although HDR (high dynamic range) content appeared ok on this TV, it fell well short of producing high-quality HDR images that will give you the extra dynamic range and small bright highlights that make HDR content so enjoyable. Very bad experience

Experience with Samsung support has been terrible. I would stay away. The TV performs well but picture is poor on an angle.

Pretty great TV

Bought this TV one week ago. Before this I owned a 46inch Sony Bravia which I had for 14 years. This is my first Smart Tv that did not require a Foxtel box or an Apple TV box to connect to streaming service. Very impressed with the Smart TV functionality. Was slightly tricky to connect originally but since then has been sensationally easy to use.

Unusable At Unboxing

I recently bought this Samsung smart TV. My daughter and I unboxed it to set it up, removing the wrapping, polystyrene, clear tape around the frame and the removable matte film on the screen, whilst following the setup guide.

Awesome Tv for a great price!

My Tv of more than 7 years broke down, so looking for a new TV was easy. I knew I wanted a Samsung as I own a Samsung Android phone. JB Hi Fi had this one for sale & they even reduced the cost of the extended warranty. Set up was a breeze & the 4K picture quality is beyond fantastic, especially when I am playing games on my PS4.

Great TV! Sound needs to be improved though

English isn’t my first language so please no hate. The TV is great, i love the video and the quality that TV does provide. The sound may need improvement although. I have a speaker plug in for the TV so sound isn’t an issue, yet it sometimes echoes meaning that it is a bit annoying sometimes when it gets accidentally turned up.
