pathfinder damage scaling

by Marianna Cole Published 3 years ago Updated 2 years ago

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber Scaling damage is an issue in this game - your damage compared to an equal level foe’s hp descales massively until level 5, then it descales slowly for the rest of the game.

Full Answer

Can I use my Dexterity score to deal damage in Pathfinder?

While most melee damage in Pathfinder is dealt with the Strength Ability Score, there may be situations where players want to use their Dexterity score to deal damage. Here are ways to get your Dexterity score into your damage numbers!

How do scaling items work in Wow?

Each scaling item has a base price that represents its value to a character whose level is equal to or less than the item’s caster level. As the item’s caster level increases in the hands of a more powerful character, the item’s value increases as well.

What are scaling items in D&D?

The following scaling items include several examples of wonders, prizes, and baubles. A GM can include specific scaling items as individual pieces of treasure even if she isn’t using the scaling items system in her game.

What happens if a PC receives a scaling item?

If a PC receives a scaling item of a caster level lower than her character level, she effectively receives an item that’s worth more than the price listed in the stat block. Reference Table: Value of Scaling Items and use the PC’s level to estimate how much the item is really worth to that PC, and use that purchase price as its treasure value.

What is Dmg s Dmg m?

The column labeled “Dmg (S)” is for Small weapons. The column labeled “Dmg (M)” is for Medium weapons. If two Damage ranges are given, then the weapon is a double weapon. Use the second Damage figure given for the double weapon's extra attack.

What does Dmg s mean pathfinder?

(S) is for small creatures and (M) is for medium. ( Provided they are using weapons sized properly for them)

Can hand axes use Dex?

For example, if you throw a Handaxe, you use your Strength, but if you throw a dagger, you can use either your Strength or your Dexterity, since the dagger has the finesse property.

Is a scythe a reach weapon?

The scythe could be used for piercing or slashing attacks in the same manner as some pole arms, like halberds, but it was not a reach weapon. It took two hands to wield a scythe and some training to use it effectively, so it was classified as a martial weapon.

How does scaling items improve character level?

Since scaling items improve as characters level up, they effectively add wealth to their owners over time. To balance this out, the Gamemaster should reduce treasure awards in proportion to how many scaling items the party has. This can be done per character or for the whole group, as described below.

What level does the Ring of Fire work?

17th Level: The ring grants fire resistance 30. The wearer increases her land speed by 5 feet. Once per day, the ring’s wearer can make a primary bite attack as a swift action. If she does not already possess a bite attack, her teeth elongate into draconic fangs as part of the swift action, granting a bite attack that deals 1d6 points of damage for a Medium wearer (1d4 for a Small wearer).

How many times can you turn a ring into a forest drake?

20th Level: The ring’s wearer can transform into a forest drake once per day. This functions as transforming into a green dragon via form of the dragon II, except that the wearer’s acid breath weapon damages a 10-foot-radius spread within 60 feet of her and remains in place as an obscuring mist for 1d4 rounds.

What does the 8th level Armageddon plate do?

8th Level: Armageddon plate retaliates against melee attackers when its fortification ability triggers. When an attacker strikes the wearer with a melee weapon and the armor negates a critical hit or sneak attack, the power of the armor leaves the attacker shaken for 1d4 rounds ( Will DC 16 negates). This is a mind-affecting fear effect, and can stack with itself to make an attacker frightened or panicked.

How many rings can you use to release scorching rays?

These five golden rings are each set with a fire opal and are linked together by thin golden chains (making them take up only a single ring item slot). The wearer can release up to five scorching rays each day, one from each of the five rings. She can release one ray as a standard action or two rays (from two different rings) as a full-round action.

What level does the shield gain energy resistance?

14th Level: The shield gains the energy resistance special ability. The type of resistance matches the breath weapon energy type of the dragon whose dragonhide was used in the shield’s construction.

What is the critical threat range of a +1 dagger?

This long, curved +1 dagger gives off a contented hum when soaked with blood. It can be thrown normally despite its length and has a critical threat range of 18–20.

How many people still play Pathfinder 1e?

Yesterday I was invited to join a Pathfinder campaign. I said “thanks! I’ve got all the 2e books.” But then was told it’s actually a 1e game. No problem of course (even though I’ve never played 1e, but plenty of D&D 3.5). So that made me wonder: How many people still play 1e?

GM fudged a roll, and now a man is dead

Hi friends, this is a story of mistakes, drama and hopefully one day healing. Just not in game healing... it's much too late for that.

What is your least favorite class from pathfinder?

For me it would have to be the kineticist. I have honestly never sen anyone play one in a campaign and I have never had any desire to play as one. Not saying they aren't a great class, I am just saying I don't believe they would be a great class for me.

Iluzry's Guide To The Slayer

BY POPULAR DEMAND (and the fact that I refuse to race u/Allerseelen on style feats) I present to the class a guide that was apparently sorely needed but not a lot of people wanted to make it.

Max the Min Monday: Elemental Ally

Welcome to Max the Min Monday! The post series where we take some of Paizo’s weakest, most poorly optimized options for first edition and see what the best things we can do with them are using 1st party Pathfinder materials!

Low-Level power builds that don't fall off

So we're in a campaign where we have 2 sets of characters. We split them off into teams and they do separate jobs. My level 7 witch has died and he's making her start off at level 1 his argument that they will gain exp from the other party doing stuff so it shouldn't be a big deal.

Is the Ninja a fun class to play?

I was thinking about playing a ninja in a one shot. Should I play the ninja or is the class not worth playing?

Apparently I'm a problem player - and I genuinely don't know why

I've been contacted by my DM after our most recent session, who informed me that the other players all think that - something none of them ever told me.

Finished a 7 year campaign

Wrapped up a 7 year long campaign which took the party from lvl 1-20 last night. All homebrew, but set in Golarion so the last session was them completing their Star Stone test and ascending as a party. For all 6 players, this was the only time they had played a multi-year game and first past lvl 12 for all of them.

My DM ragequit the campaign because I used magic jar

I'm new to Reddit so I apologize if this is the wrong forum but someone suggested I share this story here.

Want to transition to pathfinder (2E? 1E? Not sure) from DnD 5e, what are some things going into pathfinder you wish you knew when you started?

I see the crunch, and I like it. I need to train up my DnD friends a little more on the mechanics of a simpler system before moving to a more complex one such as this, but what are some important things to know for play?

What's the weirdest houserule you have ever played with?

Probably there aren't many tables that run the game 100% as written (if not for the fact that sometimes the written rules make no sense or contradict other rules). And at times they can be awesome, funny, bad, and so on.

Worst use of Wish I have ever seen

The context is that four out of five players in a group escaped from a group of very angry vampires and werewolves by jumping into a one-way portal to a lich's research laboratory demiplane. The lich is on fairly cordial terms with the players, but his defenses are not, and he's not home to disarm them, and the players were not invited.

Those of you that switched to PF2e from DnD5e, where your expectations met?

For those of you that used to play DnD 5e but now play Pathfinder 2e, what made you want to make the switch? How where those expectations met by PF2e? What worked out the way you wanted it to and what turned out to be (in your opinion) boring?

A wrong surname and now the adventure has a new Villain

I was DMing Council of Thieves and I created a rival party to have a little of conflict with the players, maybe posible allies if they are able to befriend them.

My RotRL players actually came up with an unorthodox AND impressive course of action for dealing with the early-game goblins. What should I do?

Firstly: to the one player of mine who I know stalks my reddit profile: shoo! You don't want to see what happens here - also, if I think you've spied on it, I might be tempted to make it worse. 😈

Spheres Showcase 5: Slinging Spells and Giving Hell- SoP Classes!

Hi everyone! Last Week we went over the SoM Classes and how amazing the Blacksmith class is. This time, we are jumping ship back to the magical side! Let's start by naming a few differences between SoM and SoP Classes!

Converting from 2E to 1E

As in the title. There are plenty of guides how to convert first edition stuff into second edition mechanics.

What happens if an item loses half of its hit points?

If an item has lost half or more of its hit points, the item gains the broken condition (see Conditions) and the DC to break it drops by 2.

How much does each +1 enhancement bonus add to armor?

Each +1 of enhancement bonus adds 2 to the hardness of armor, a weapon, or a shield, and +10 to the item’s hit points.

How long does a broken object stay functional?

A damaged object remains functional with the broken condition until the item’s hit points are reduced to 0, at which point it is destroyed.

Can melee weapons damage stone walls?

For example, a bludgeoning weapon cannot be used to damage a rope. Likewise, most melee weapons have little effect on stone walls and doors, unless they are designed for breaking up stone, such as a pick or hammer.

Can you smash a shield?

Generally, you can smash an object only with a bludgeo ning or slashing weapon.
