The nights away notification form (Form NAN) can also be attached to emails, or printed out and completed by hand. As well as being available from the Scout Information Centre, nights away permit holders can download a Nights Away Event Passport to use for young people-led nights away events.
When should I submit my nan form to my district commissioner?
Please remember that when submitting your NAN Form to your District Commissioner at least 7 days prior to your event, it should be accompanied by your InTouch system with details of the main contacts who should be contacted in the event of an emergency.

Why do we have a Nights Away permit scheme?
The Nights Away Permit Scheme promotes quality residential and camping experiences. It shows that all those leading nights away events for young people within Scouting have the skills, experience and personal suitability to take young people away safely.
Can Beavers and Cubs share tents?
Yes they can. This is subject to the Risk Assessment of the Nights Away Permit holder. The Nights Away Permit holder has the ultimate responsibility for the event so it will be their decision.
Who can hold a Scouts nights away permit?
Permits can only be held by Members or Associate Members of The Scout Association. There is no maximum age limit to gaining a nights Away Permit. Permits must be renewed at intervals of not more than five years. Permits will expire automatically if they are not renewed.
Can Scouts camp on public campsites?
Other places that may be suitable for camping with Scouts include privately owned land, public campsites and National Trust properties. However, check suitability before booking a site or pitch. If you wish to camp on common land or in other local areas, check local byelaws do not prohibit camping.
Can parents go on scout trips?
Webelos and Arrow of Light Den Camping: Each Scout should attend with their parent(s) or guardian(s). A Webelos or Arrow of Light Scout whose parent or legal guardian cannot attend a den overnight camping trip may participate under the supervision of at least two registered leaders.
Do parents stay at Beavers?
During the first few weeks your child will need to learn their Beaver Promise and the Beaver Motto. You may stay for Beavers, if your son or daughter is anxious, but be prepared to join in all our activities! After a few weeks they are 'invested' as Beavers in a special ceremony which you are welcome to attend.
Do Cubs go camping?
Camping is one of the most exciting activities your child can take part in as a Cub and we have had some amazing camps in the past such as our Dr Who camp pictured above. Leaders at the 1st work hard to provide opportunities for young people to enjoy nights away on scouting activities.
