Are Mr. Buddy heaters safe to use indoors?

Perhaps one of the best features of the Mr. Heater Buddy is that it can be used both indoors and outdoors. How many lbs does a Big Buddy heater use?

To avoid this problem, the hose can be replaced with one that has a pressure reducing regulator. The Big Buddy Heater uses one- or two-pound pro pane tanks that need to be refilled constantly, making it fuel inefficient.

Why is my Big Buddy heater clogged?

When using the Big Buddy Heater with the 20-pound tank, the regulator and control valve can get clogged by residue formed due to the high PSI from the propane tank. This can be avoided by turning off the tank first and allowing the fuel left in the hose to burn up completely, rather than just switching off the heater.

Cause 1: Dirty Pilot

The pilot keeps your heater ignited. If your heater pilot is dirty, it won’t light. So a dirty pilot can be the culprit behind Mr Heater not staying lit. Carbon, oil, spider web, and other types of debris build-up can be why the pilot light is not working. And as a result, turning off the heater as well.

Cause 2: Improper Draft Positioning

The draft allows air supply in the heater system. The heater works with the help of this air. But if there is too much airflow, then the heater will not stay lit. Excessive air will blow the fire out.

Cause 3: Dirty Thermocouple

A dirty thermocouple is another culprit behind your mr buddy heater keeps shutting off. Thermocouple signals the heater gas valve when to open and when to close. A dirty thermocouple will fail to do it. It will signal the gas valve to close when it is not needed. As a result, the gas supply will stop, and the heater won’t stay lit anymore.

Cause 4: Faulty Gas Valve

The gas valve supplies the fuel in your heater. Your heater doesn’t work without this fuel. And this is precisely what happens when the gas valve is faulty.

Cause 5: Dirty Pilot Orifice

The pilot orifice controls the flow of the gas to the pilot. You already know that if your buddy heater pilot won’t light, the heater will not stay lit. Again, if the pilot orifice is faulty, it will prevent the activity of the pilot. So basically a dirty pilot orifice will eventually cause the whole heater to shut down.

Cause 6: Faulty Flame Sensor

The flame sensor signals the heater to function appropriately. It reads the atmosphere of the heater and sends commands to the heater system. The sensor will read wrong signs if it’s dirty. As a result, it will command the heater to turn off. This is the same as the heater not staying lit.

1. Malfunctioned Sensor

Whenever the pilot light will not ignite, this signifies a problem in the device sensor. Sensors are programmed to detect heating problems.

2. Clogged Pilot Tube

If you’re still having bad issues with Mr. Heater Pilot Light, try to assess the pilot line or tubing. This part usually accumulates dirt and unwanted debris when frequently used.

3. Dirty Thermocouple

Another culprit behind the troubleshooting of your heater is a dirty thermocouple. A thermocouple works by directing heater gas valves when to operate in opening and closing.

4. Damaged Gas Valve

Technically, gas valves are responsible for fueling up the heater to make it work. If this becomes damaged due to clogged dirt or debris, the heater won’t light.

5. Defective Electronic Spark Mechanism

If you happen to guess that the electronic spark mechanism is defective as the blower is turned on. Well, you must reroute the wirings of the heater. And to do this, proceed to the steps below.

6. Clogged Burner Orifice

When the pilot heater does not light properly, there may be a lot of reasons behind it and one of them is the dirt burner orifice. Using a heater gathers dirt and debris over time.

When I press down and

When the pilot lights continue holding the button down for a full minute and then release. It should stay lit then to allow you to turn it to the on position. If the pilot will not stay lit after holding it for the full minute, then the thermocouple will need to be replaced. Hope this helps.

I had this same problem with my heater. I cleaned the propane tube where the flame comes out (after it’s off and cooled down) with a Qtip and some alcohol. After removing some cotton, it will fit all the way down to the end of the tube. Repeat until it comes out clean and stays lit.
