Too much or too little hardener will affect the cure time and thoroughness of the cure. A. Remove the uncured epoxy. Do not apply additional material over non-curing epoxy. See Clean Up & Removing. B. Check that you’re using the correct number of pump strokes: Use equal strokes of epoxy resin and hardener.

History

The company had its beginnings in 1969 in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Sam Bonham, at the time running a machine shop, discovered a way to create what he called a "tougher than steel" epoxy. In 1968, Sam's future wife Mary persuaded him to sell his invention and he founded the J-B Weld Company. Sam died suddenly in 1989.

Products

The J-B Weld Company's original product line focused on a small number of products: J-B Weld (original 2-tube epoxy), J-B Kwik (4-hour epoxy), J-B Stik ( epoxy putty ), Waterweld (underwater adhesive/filler), and a few others.

J-B Weld epoxy

J-B Weld is a two-part epoxy adhesive (or filler) that can withstand high-temperature environments. J-B Weld can be used to bond surfaces made from metal, porcelain, ceramic, glass, marble, PVC, ABS, concrete, fiberglass, wood, fabric, or paper. Alcohol should be avoided when cleaning surfaces, as it can degrade the bond.

How does epoxy bubble?

Bubbles formed in epoxy coating over porous material (bare wood or foam) Air trapped in the epoxy escapes through the coating (out-gassing) as the material’s temperature is rising. Coat the wood with epoxy as the temperature is dropping—after warming the wood with heaters or during the later part of the day.

How to thin epoxy film?

A thin film will flow out much smoother than a thicker film after it is tipped off with the foam roller brush. Warm the epoxy to thin it or apply the coating at a warmer temperature. See Cold Temperature Bonding.

What causes epoxy to pull away from pinholes?

Surface tension causes the epoxy film to pull away from pinhole before it gels. After applying epoxy with an 800 Roller Cover, force epoxy into pinholes with a stiff plastic spreader held at a low or nearly flat angle. Re-coat and tip off coating after all pinholes are filled.

How to get air out of wood?

Coat the wood with epoxy as the temperature is dropping—after warming the wood with heaters or during the later part of the day. Apply a thinner epoxy coat, allowing air to escape easier. Tip-off the epoxy coating with a roller cover brush to break bubbles. See Barrier Coating.

Can you use epoxy to sand a fairing?

Fairing material is not thick enough. Add more filler to the epoxy mixture until it reaches a “peanut butter” consistency; the more filler added, the stiffer and easier it will be to sand. Allow the wet-out coat of epoxy to gel before applying the fairing material to vertical surfaces. See Fairing.
