Why is VIP a good deal?
Because your point of view makes sense. If you just go in flinging around numbers you make up in your head, and making demands that can't be supported with evidence you won't. The VIP is a great deal. Take the numbers people claim to pay with a grain of salt. Dealer fees can vary greatly from state to state.
What is a VIP certificate?
The VIP certificate is made out to a specific dealer. At first the dealer seemed willing to accept the VIP pricing, but the next day he told me they do not do VIP on the Outbacks.
KBB is an advertising company
KBB is an advertising company first and foremost. KBB does not sell cars. KBB does not buy cars. You do not pay for their estimates. So if you went to KBB and they said your clapped out rust bucket was worth what it is actually worth you wouldn't go back to KBB again. It is in KBB's interest to tell you your car is worth more than it is.
Walked Away from a Deal Today
I'm in the market for a Toyota Prius XLE in supersonic red. MRSP is just north of $32K. Today we met with a really nice salesman and we found the exact car that would be available in 2-3 weeks. Why do dealerships treat you differently when u are pre approved with ur own financing?
This happened to me yesterday. They acted like they couldn’t sell me the car without using their financing. Why??
A lot of talk of financing with the dealers banks versus bringing your own preapproval
Getting preapproved through your own bank is never a bad thing. It gives you an idea of where you would be worst case scenario. But as a manager at a dealer, I'm always going to ask to see your actual preapproval letter and to give us a shot at financing.
Question to customers
Why do you always want to keep the bow? I always try and give an A1 presentation after such a big purchase. We have a bow we use. I put it on no matter what every time. Some people take pictures, some people don’t even notice. One thing they all have in common is they always ask “do I get to keep the bow?”.
False Advertising
Update: The sales manager reached out to apologize for the inconvenience and said he was willing to offer a generous discount on this car. All in all, I understand this was most likely just a mistake of some kind, and everyone here has made some good points about how and why these things happen. Thanks everyone for the feedback.
