by Prof. Katelynn Halvorson Sr. Published 3 years ago Updated 3 years ago

Also, while the section bank is generally harder than the real MCAT, expect anywhere between 2 to 5 section bank level difficulty passages on the actual MCAT phys/chem and bio/biochem sections.

What is section bank material for the MCAT?

The section bank material should be more of material where you should be dissecting exactly what kind of questions the MCAT may throw at you and how to solve them. They are supposedly (because I didn't take the MCAT myself yet) a representative of the HARDEST passages you will encounter.

Are the AAMC section banks really that hard?

Yo so does anyone else feel like the aamc section banks are as hell. IMO, these passages are particularly more challenging than ones found in AAMC FL 1 &2 ( only FLs ive taken thus far). But I also feel they are the most representative of the real MCAT compared to the Qpacks and Uworld. ( l want to hear y'all opinions)

Are the AAMC fl passages more difficult than the MCAT passages?

IMO, these passages are particularly more challenging than ones found in AAMC FL 1 &2 ( only FLs ive taken thus far). But I also feel they are the most representative of the real MCAT compared to the Qpacks and Uworld. ( l want to hear y'all opinions)

How do I prepare for the section Bank?

The section bank is a jungle. Be prepared for the most insane questions, thinking, and an endless number of charts, figures, diagrams, and mechanisms to be presented to you. Relax. Take a deep breath. For the section bank, don't focus on how many you got right/wrong, or your overall percentage.

Are the MCAT Section banks harder?

Since the Section Bank is more difficult, it's not very predictive of your score on the actual test. Instead, you should treat the Section Bank as more of a content review tool. I recommend doing it about a month before your test.

Should I do the AAMC Section banks?

It's best to use the AAMC section bank no later than a month out from your test date. Mix it into your study routine and complete the entire bank before attempting any practice exams. If you start early, the best way to use the section bank is to complete it twice.

How long does it take to finish section bank MCAT?

Section bank took 1 week because it was a lot shorter, that's including reviewing the material thoroughly afterwards. DO NOT do the section bank until right before the test, the week before you take the scored FL. All in all you have time so take about 1-2 weeks for the qpack and 1 week for the section bank.

Is a section a bank representative?

The short answer is that yes, the real MCAT will involve data interpretation/analysis as in the Section Bank and so you should study that in detail. The QPacks and AAMC Sample and FL are representative of the easy questions you will see on the exam in general. The Section Bank is representative of the most difficult.

Is UWorld harder than the MCAT?

Because UWorld questions are significantly more difficult than the AAMC, you will likely score much worse on them. I've often seen differences of 10-20% among my students. So take your UWorld scores with a grain of salt. I consider any score above 75% on UWorld to be very good.

How many questions are in AAMC section Bank?

The Section Bank provides a total of 300 practice questions, which includes 100 practice questions from each of the following sections: Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems. Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems.

How many questions can you miss on the MCAT to get a 528?

Another advantage of the scaled score is that you don't need to get every single question correct to score a 528. Some estimates suggest you could get up to eight questions wrong and still score a 528. The MCAT does not penalize you for wrong or unanswered questions, rather you gain points for every correct question.

What is 95th percentile on MCAT?

518A 95th percentile rank on the MCAT equals a scaled score of 518, which means you scored better than 95% of other test-takers.

What is the lowest MCAT score you can get?

118Your correct answers in each section are converted to a scaled score ranging from 118 (lowest possible score) to 132 (highest possible score). The scores for all four sections are added together. This means that the lowest possible MCAT score you can get is 472 and the highest is 528.

Just wanted to share my positive experience..

I wrote the MCAT back in 2018, and received a score of 494. I remember trying to study that summer, but having so much trouble focusing, which resulted in me spiraling and studying even less. I felt discouraged, and put my MCAT aspirations on the back-burner for a few years.

Crushed by THE MCAT

For all the ones that got their scores and did not meet their goal, you are not alone I got 490 and I feel so useless.
