IMHO, with the current NBDE part one format, if you study a reasonable amount you can probably expect a low to mid 80's score. The students who got 90+ scores put about 300-400 hours of study into preparing for the test. I don't think that they made the test harder to pass, I think they just made it harder to get a high score.
