"We had two or three tunes, or pieces of tunes, and "The Weight" was one I would work on. Robbie had that bit about going down to Nazareth - Pennsylvania, where the Martin guitar factory is at. The song was full of our favorite characters. "Luke" was Jimmy Ray Paulman. "Young Anna Lee" was Anna Lee Williams from Turkey Scratch.

Seriously? I always thought it was Annie. Vocalists often carry a consonant from the last word onto the next for rhythmic considerations, thereby making "off/Annie" sound like "Fanny." YMMV.

FWIW, the New York Times-published sheet music book, The Greatest Songs of the 1960s (or whatever it was titled -- it was a commonly-used volume in my early-'70s guitar lessons) had it as "Fanny."
