Is domestic just underwriters or Underwriters?

Domestic and General telling me that they're just underwriters. Getting through eventually to Customer Services they said that they would investigate and get back within 3 working days its now been 4.

Using D&G was a simple process. All of the forms and information were simple and quick to follow out. Communication from the company has been prompt and friendly, and I have had no isssue whatsoever. I'd definitely recommend them to anyone who wants a decent and professional service.

Does an appliance break down?

True, your appliance may never break down but, for a couple of pounds a month, I personally believe the peace of mind is worth it.

What Customer Service?

The mark of a good company is not what they can sell you (almost anyone can do that) but how they deal with you thereafter and when things go wrong. This is where D&G fail miserably. Firstly when calling Hotpoint for a repair I ended up with D&G. Therein starts something of a hard sell to buy a 'plan' to protect not only the product you're seeking to get repaired but another product as well for the princely sum of £240 paid over 12 months by direct debit. However, once you get the paperwork through, you find out that this only covers appliances up to 8 years old. Fine, I understand that actuarial reasoning for that. However, once I checked my paperwork, all of my appliances are either already insured with an extended warranty or are over 8 years old. Fine; I will cancel the policy within the 14 day cooling off period; herein lies the problem. You can't do this using the online account management system; there is no option to do so. The live online chat service is extremely clunky and poor. Getting through on the phone is tortuous, time consuming, frustrating and once you get to someone (31 minutes this last attempt) they are rude. I don't understand why Hotpoint align themselves with this company as it must have a knock on effect on their reputation as well. Strangely, the D&G site claim 4 stars from over 460000 reviews on Trustpilot.

What does "can't do" mean?

A company with engineers who can't do…. A company with engineers who can't do their job. It took to the third engineer to find the fault, still not fixed. Does not sound good when the third one points out the first two should have seen the fault causing the issue. Customer care is poor.

Can you take out a policy with Domestic and General?

Do not take out a policy with Domestic and General. they take your money for plans, you cannot book a repair, their online system does not work and they do not answer their phones to book a repair on the phone.

Worst customer service experience ever

Yes, an engineer came and fixed my washing driver. But I had one of the worst customer experience ever. 1.First call, they took the wrong code resulting in a waiting to get the new part. 2.the engineer sent me a text with a time at night, the system correct that in the morning. We thought the time was changed and we miss the time slot.

Very knowledgeable engineer

After explaining the problem, he knew exactly what was wrong with the washing machine before opening it up. Luckily the belt had come if and he just fitted it back on. His knowledge of the appliance was very good.

19 years of D&G

I have made some of the best friends of my life working at Domestic and General. I've worked with this company for 19 years and honestly my colleagues are all an extension of my family at this point! Domestic and general want to see everyone do well, and invest in their staff- I've had the opportunity to develop so many new skills in my time here.

I started my career at Domestic and General as an agent advisor, being at the forefront of the customers journey and helping to support all of our customers needs. Through displaying the company values and vast motivation it was only a short time after that I was then asked to step up and become a Team Leader for our Regulated department.

My D&G experience

D&G has been a great place for me to work. Everybody (regardless of their status within the business) was really welcoming and caring, checking up on me regularly. The roll is intense, but has a great reward for succeeding employees. I couldn't recommend a work place anymore.

Since joining D&G a few years ago, I have met and worked with very amazing people. I have been fortunate to work with managers who have encouraged me to develop myself personally and professionally. I have taken up the opportunity to develop my sales, customer service, communication and decision making skills.

I've been with this company for 6 years and what can i say the rewards are fantastic we have a monthly bonus scheme and on top of the we have a salary progression where we get an extra £1000 every six months just for coming in and doing our job .
