Level 2 can be worth it if you don't allready have any existing warenty or protection plan on your tvs or some other devices you connect to your Directv setup, but if you still have coverage on them like from when your purchased them don't get Directv's plan on top of that as it gives no additional benefit.

It is not a scam. For some customers the protection plan is well worth it worth it. My household level 1 is not needed, but level 2 would be considered after the plan on the big shared tv expires. But the no charge no claim period is in place to avoid the customer from trying to pull a scam. Because too many people would get the plan and then immedately turn around to file a claim for an issue they have had for days or weeks, which would be the customer committing fraud. The situation the origional poster has sounds like they were not told correctly how the plan worked when they got it, which would be the fault of the agent.
