Worldwide Foam wishes you to have safe retrofit manufacturing, distribution center (s) and happy end-users. That is why our Closed Cell Foam, Slow Rise Closed Cell Foam, and our Dual Purpose Open Cell Foams are all ASTM E84 Class 1 fire retardant.
Does closed cell spray foam have to be paint coated?
I was surprised to hear that closed cell spray foam if installed in basement has to either have (i) special paint coating to slow down the spread of fire or (ii) sheet rock over it. Is this a true? Is this an advantage of open cell spray foam, in that it is much more fire resistant?
Does spray foam insulation have a fire-retardant feature?
Some spray foam products also offer a fire-retardant feature in addition to thermal insulation features. Because installing spray foam or blown-in insulation requires special equipment … Expanding spray foam can be an incredible tool to insulate your home. Discover these different types and applications of spray foam to use around the house.
Is closed cell spray foam insulation fire retardant?
Tiger Foam E-84 Class 1 Fire-Rated foam insulation is a multipurpose, two-part, closed-cell polyurethane formula specifically manufactured for fire retardancy. The packaging, delivery system, and components were designed to be user- and environmentally friendly. These systems are both portable and disposable.
Is spray foam fire retardant?
Almost all spray foam insulation sold in the U.S. contains flame retardant, because untreated foam is a fire accelerant.
Is closed cell foam a fire barrier?
Yes, absolutely. If you put spray foam insulation in a building, it needs a thermal barrier. That's what separates it from the occupied spaces. If there's a fire in the building, a thermal barrier keeps the combustible spray foam from the flames to increase fire resistance.
Is there fireproof spray foam insulation?
The fireproof insulating qualities of Airkrete creates a barrier of protection against heat and flames. The protected walls, ceiling and floors can't burn, and you get the extra time needed to save precious lives!
Is closed cell foam heat resistant?
Known for its superior strength and heat resistance, closed-cell foam is used across multiple industries in a diverse range of ways.
Can you use spray foam around fireplace?
To keep a fireplace working properly, never use spray foam on the inside of the fireplace or the chimney, or on the damper. On the exterior surfaces of the fireplace and chimney, spray foam is fine because these surfaces won't get hot enough to melt it or to cause any damage.
What type of insulation is fireproof?
Fiberglass insulationFiberglass insulation is made of glass combined with plastic polymers and is naturally fire-resistant.
What is fire rated foam?
Fire rated expanding foam can be used as an efficient seal against smoke and gas, providing up to 240 minutes fire rating. As well as being useful due to its excellent filling characteristics, fire rated foam has high thermal properties and provides acoustic insulation.
Can spray foam spontaneously combust?
When SPF is being installed, an exothermic (heat-producing) chemical reaction occurs. That reaction continues for some hours after installation is complete. If this heat doesn't have a way to escape from the foam, there is a risk that the foam could spontaneously combust.
What is the R value of Versi Foam?
Versi-Foam® 2 lb closed cell spray foam insulation kits are available in two different formulations: Standard Formula and Class I (flame-retardant) Formula. The Standard Formula provides an R-value of 7.7 at a one-inch thickness. Recommended for most commercial and industrial applications, the Standard Formula is ideal for air sealing, wall or ceiling insulation, condensation control, sound dampening, structural enhancement, tank and pipe insulation, roof repair, marine flotation, truck/trailer insulation, sculpting and molding, pool and spa insulation, and much more.
How many square feet of foam is in a Hy-Flo 700?
Hy-Flo 700 will produce 700 square feet of cured foam at a 1" thickness. The Hy-Flo Systems are a Class I foam. Large systems can be shut down and used on another day. Once the kit is opened, it is recommended that the kit be used in 30 days, and it is required that the systems are used at least once every seven days.
What is a Hy-Flo 700?
The perfect solution for the highly efficient hybrid insulation system or air sealing projects where 1" of foam is required. Hy-Flo 700 consists of two sets of chemical tanks partially filled and more heavily pressurized. It is packaged in four cartons, complete with our patented U-Control dispensing gun attached to two 20 foot hoses, 12 flash spray nozzles, 3 multi-purpose mixing nozzles, and nitrile gloves. Hy-Flo 700 will produce 700 square feet of cured foam at a 1" thickness. The Hy-Flo Systems are a Class I foam.
National Fire Safety Standards
The National Fire Protection Agency developed a set of standards for determining the fire safety of a textile or fabric, known as NFPA 701: Standard Methods of Fire Tests for Flame Propagation of Textiles and Films. Although NFPA 701 itself is not a law, many local and state governments do require that textiles used in public spaces comply with it.

What is the difference between spray foam and thermal barrier?
Building codes require all spray foam installed in a crawl space to be protected by an ignition barrier. This is a less stringent barrier than a so-called thermal barrier (which basically means 1/2-inch drywall), but it is still important. An intumescent coating (what you call fire-retardant paint) is a type of ignition barrier.
Can you spray fire retardant paint in a crawl space?
The company was supposed to return to spray on fire-retardant paint. The crawl space is difficult to work in and they company has offered me several hundred dollars discount to leave it unpainted. They tell me that there is actually no requirement for the fire retardant paint in a crawl space, and that because there is no source ...

Can building materials cause fire?
All building materials can burn, release heat and toxic gases causing injury or death. All building materials react differently in a fire situation. The history of testing interior finishes for fire characteristics goes back to the early part of the 20th century.
Can foam plastic be separated from the attic?
However, in attics and crawlspaces where entry is only for service of utilities (not used for storage or living space), the foam plastic may be separated from the space in the attic or the space in the crawlspace with an ignition barrier instead of a thermal barrier.
