I have been a professional nail technician for 13 years, and I can tell you that your podiatrist is wrong to clip and shape your nails as she has been doing. Nails should be clipped straight across with no "spur" on the edges, then filed straight across.

This why podiatrists go to college--and you didn't! What the woman describes is in fact the first treatment often performed on pincer nails. It does run counter to conventional wisdom on the Internet (and nail technicians), where it is a good idea to cut/file straight across.

I appreciate the information given here but we can do without the nastiness. Your college statement is both arrogant and condescending. Melody was trying to help and assuming that she is ignorant and uneducated is both wrong and a reflection of your total lack of class.

I had my "Pincer Nail" surgery yesterday - it sucked. However my Podiatrist did tell me DO NOT ROUND THE EDGES OF YOUR TOENAIL. He told me to even go into his office to get my nails cut if I don't think I can get them perfectly straight. This will cause the edges to dig in to your skin again. Hope this helps!

Madeleine, when you say you had Pincer Nail surgery what did you have done? Is there a way to cure pincer nails without having no toe nail? Even if it is to remove it and then it grows back?
