Peppers are planted to the east of the Okra so they get direct morning sun and filtered sun in the afternoon. Everyone has okra here, so it prices about $2/lb (on the low end) all the way to $4/lb, but we sell to a high end, large city market, so $3/lb would be a nice profitable rate.

I do not think you were necessarily being ripped off, you were selling to someone who still has to do the work of selling the green beans himself, and selling in a very short period of time, because old rubbery beans aren't going to sell. He still has to make his profit after paying you.
