They also had an expansive amount of land to roam throughout. The front encounter for animals didn't even look like a zoo because of the time and efforts spent on creating a more so free-range environment.

Is the 46L line suspended?
The direct route to Oakland Zoo, Line 46, is temporarily suspended. Line 46L is available on weekdays only, which drops off right outside the Zoo on Mountain Blvd. & Golf Links Rd. This line stops outside Oakland Zoo hourly, roughly between 6:45am and 8:00pm. For exact times please visit the 46L Line schedule page on AC Transit's website.
Can dogs be on the zoo grounds?
Dogs or other pets are not allowed on Zoo grounds or in parking areas.
Is alcohol allowed in Oakland Zoo?
In addition to the food options inside the Zoo, visitors are welcome to use the picnic tables and benches, or sprawl out in the meadow. Alcohol is not permitted at the zoo. For the safety of the animals, the Zoo does not provide straws.
