We remodeled our kitchen and dining room. In doing so we removed old baseboard and trim around room and around a set of steps. We replastered walls and added new flooring. We're about to replace baseboard but now have a gap where a piece of the stair handrail support use to be.

Our house is almost 200 years old and the stairs is the original with a lot of repairs. As you can see in the picture there are massive gaps between the wall and the stairs. How do I fix this?

Google "Fossa caulk saver". Shove that in the gaps, repair the damaged plasterwork with a filler (eg Polyfilla) then when dry use decorators caulk with a silicone finger to complete the task

Gaps between stairs! Help!!!

So we got a little too excited about DIY and decided we were going to rip up the carpet on the stairs. The plan was to just sand and paint the existing stairs and risers. What we didn't know before ripping out the carpet is that there is a gap in between all of the stairs. Not really sure where to go from here.

Looks like these stairs were always meant to have carpet on them... hence the short cuts with the original carpenter. If you are going to use a quarter round, it may stick out too much and people may trip on the steps, as this shortens the depth of the steps. Ask a carpenter to come out and give you a quote to redo the steps....
