the only way that comes to my mind to make that part flush is to fill the gap with a filler, smooth it out and repaint it. Or would you suggest a different way?

Once you've beaten the tiler to death with his own arms, you could double board the ceiling, weighing it up against coving it the price difference would probably be less, especially if it's a small bathroom and its two sheets of plasterboard. Plus you wouldn't have to remove anything.

Ahh, I had to laugh. And cry at the same time. I am still looking for the secret of finding reliable, good craftsmen. Despite all our efforts and a series of failures, we ended up with that guy and he left us with a bad job. But for now it is about finding good compromises and see what I can do myself (or not).

The finished job is down to bad planning or in this case no planning or forethought. I'm with Jord on this ......plasterboard ceiling tis the best solution by far.
