There isn't a way to check it- the ZF transmission likely installed on your truck only has a drain location and a fill location. Is your motor having shifting issues? How many miles does it have?

Jack the truck up.And release the bolts 20 or more on the pan .Take the filter out put a new one in .Drain the fluids in the pan.

It is located on the transmission pan. Their is a "fluid level check screw" that you will need to take out. You aren't going to be able to just dump a quart of fluid in and be good though. These transmissions are designed under normal driving conditions to never have to be serviced and that includes the fluid.
